Smallville actually delivered… big time. I thoroughly enjoyed the premiere last night. I think I have watched it 3 times. I am trying to be cautiously optimistic because knowing this show once Lana gets back it will become the same annoying show it was the last few seasons. She just makes Clark completely unwilling to become who he is destined to become. I sincerely hope this season will continue to have this kind of momentum. He was seriously channeling Superman a few times. Heck, if the rest of the season could be half as good I would be very enthused. I have to say I feel better about this season than I did last year at this time. I love the fact that Michael is right behind Tom in the credits. I think that is how it should have always been. Clark and Lex are after all the most important to the Superman mythos. We shall see I guess.
On to a much more serious note, I was watching CNN last night and saw the story on the little girl who was held by the sick f***** who tortured her and uploaded it to the internet. I mean honestly why would anyone do such a thing? I know there are perverts who do things to kids but uploading it is just beyond wrong. You also have to wonder who sees these things too. I feel for the kid because I know more than most what torture is like and for a kid to live with those demons is incredibly unfair. I hope she gets into therapy and stays in it. I have so many feelings about things like this and I just do not wish to talk about them.
Which also brings up something I have been noticing lately with the constant influx of these types of crimes. My thoughts concern the internet. I think the invention of the internet is both a good and bad thing. We have unlimited resources online, and that is great and fun sometimes. However, it worries me that the fact that you can communicate with anyone and get anything online is perhaps, in a way, legitimizing these things that people do to others. Like, if you see someone else doing the same thing, how can it be wrong? I wouldn’t see it that way. But you have to wonder if someone who is kind of closed off from the world and ashamed of the things they are thinking could alloy themselves to think it is okay simply because there are others online doing it and discussing it. The internet cannot make someone do awful things but if you already have the inclination perhaps the enormous amount of feedback online would cause you to actually act on something that you thought beforehand was morally wrong and also a crime. I doubt that this theory is correct, but I do wonder about such things every now and again.
I was watching the first episode of "Bionic Woman" tonight (looks very promising by the way) and the question came up in the show "Can you teach an old dog new tricks". It made me start wondering who came up with such a stupid question. I mean, dogs are not stupid beings, so why would anyone think you could not teach them things at any age? My puppy is ten years old and I have to say that she learns things daily! Her aptitude for understanding and learning is kind of amazing to watch. I find myself mystified at times at just how much of what we humans say she understands fully. We literally have to spell words out because some words just piss her off. I love her, she is a genius.
On to some tv show talk. So far I have watched the season premieres for "Heroes" (phenomenal), "Bones" (good as usual); and also, as mentioned above, watched the premiere for "Bionic Woman" (interesting and I will keep watching) and the comedy/thriller "Reaper" (funny with a fabulous devil played by Ray Wise).
Tonight (thursday) "Smallville" comes back on. This is a good and bad thing for me. I love Superman and with all the spoilers I have read for upcoming episodes this season looks promising. But I will not get my hopes up because this show can really, really suck at times. The writers just refuse to change things for our Clark, he is obsessed with Lana and refuses to see the light. Honestly he seems pretty pathetic most of the time. But I will keep watching because 1, I like Tom Welling – with good writing he can be terrific at times. 2, I truly enjoy watching Lois, Chloe, and Lionel. The spoilers about Lois actually going to work for the Daily Planet also have me pretty excited. Which makes me think of an example of how messed up this show is regarding our future man of steel – Clark never mentions reporting at all. He just works the farm. The guy is somewhere around 21 years old and not only does he not want to be who he is, he never mentions writing at all. How f’ed up is that?
I will post again tomorrow night after the premiere. I will prepare myself to be underwhelmed by the Lana obsession hour, but hopefully we Superman fans will get thrown some glimpse of our hero this season. *fingers crossed*
I really wish there were stricter laws on people who hurt or abuse an animal. I really appreciate the outrage from people all over this country concerning the Vick case. What he partook in is an unimaginable thing to do to such a loving and trusting being. However, I do wish we would step up the laws so that when individuals like this are caught and convicted they would serve longer terms. I realize things have changed in last several decades in that people want to protect their pets as if they were family. I guess I just want to laws to catch up to our feelings. We have to show these criminals that just because your victim cannot speak does NOT mean they don’t deserve justice. They deserve it even more simply because they cannot speak up for themselves.
I have a dog and she is literally the single most important thing I will ever know in my lifetime. I will never love anything or anyone quite as much or in the same way as her. Dogs are amazing because their capacity for love and understanding is boundless. I cannot fathom anyone wanting to see such an innocent being hurt. There is something terribly wrong with any individual who would hurt an innocent life. It sickens me. I just want to know why humans do these things? I could get very depressed thinking about this at the moment so here a few beautiful quotes that I found to help get across some of what I am trying to say:
"These birds and animals and fish cannot speak, but they can suffer, and our God who created them knows their sufferings, and will hold him who causes them to suffer unnecessarily to answer for it. It is a sin against their Creator." -George Q. Cannon
"Compassion for animals is intimately connected with goodness of character and it may be confidently asserted that he who is cruel to animals cannot be a good man."Arthur Schopenhauer
"Wild animals never kill for sport. Man is the only one to whom the torture and death of his fellow-creatures is amusing in itself. " – James Anthony Froude
I have now watched the "Heroes" season premiere twice. And I have to say it rocked. Truly delivering all the hopes I had for a season premiere after the amazing finale last summer. Things are really iffy for all of the characters and it seems like this season will be full of plot twists and excitement. I cannot stress how much I adore watching Noah and Claire try to fit in, doing it so poorly all the while. LOL And Hiro is a joy to watch. The episode has some truly laugh out loud moments. Just as joy to watch and I say bring on next week!
Tomorrow I think I will post something I love to talk/write about, my little dog Marci.
Almost time for "Heroes". Tomorrow or today rather, starts a whole new season of the show. I don’t have much to say tonight but I am excited to see what happens next. I hope that Peter and Nathan survived the mind-blowing finale.
It will be a long wait for what in my humble opinion is the best show ever created, "Battlestar Galactica". The show itself won’t be back on until next year but there will be a tv movie coming in the fall. Anything to do with this program is going to be terrific. And it is just as long a wait for "Lost" to come back. I seriously miss Jack.
I love sci-fi movies and television. I was raised doing everything my older brother did so even though I am a woman I just don’t like "female" movies or television programs for that matter. My favorite kinds of entertainment is usually based in science fiction. Especially superheroes. I just find it to be an amazing idea – what if there were true superheroes who could ultimately save us from doom or even each other? It makes me hope that people in general are not as uncaring and self-centered as it appears to be in the real world. I have seen very little selflessness in this
world. I know just how cruel and scary we can be as a race. Which makes these
kinds of programs fascinating to me.
That is one of the things that I love about "Heroes". The characters at the beginning of the season were just who, over the course of 23 episodes, become saviors of the world. They used their extraordinary gifts to protect humankind. Even though humans were not so kind to them. Seeing them as different, they were experimented on and tested without consent. But yet the heroes would do anything to protect us. In general, this show is a great program. Even people who don’t like superhero tales could appreciate the talent that is on the screen every week. I just cannot wait to see what Season 2 has to offer. It will be quite a ride, I am sure.
Watching "Heroes" has one downside for me. My favorite hero is hands down Superman. I have mentioned this before. Which makes me a diligent watcher of "Smallville" , or the adventures of young Clark Kent. I began watching from the first episode. I have to say, this show could be great. It could be, but it isn’t. One of the main drawbacks in my eyes for this show is that the people who started this program don’t know much about Superman. The characteristics that make him the the world’s most beloved protector. There are times when I think "Smallville" is finally changing into a show where you could actually see this young man as Superman one day. But for some reason it always lets me down. I think it is quite sad to have the most powerful superhero whine and cry over everything, including his destiny. I just want this season to be Clark’s acceptance season. I basically want him to be more Superman-like. I just hope that is not too much to ask..
I was watching "Idiocracy" again on one of the HBO channels. It amazes me just how accurate this film’s depiction of the future will be in my opinion. If we don’t stop having kids in such a reckless manner we will end up in a bad place. Not just with lots of stupid people running around but the environment will not be able to sustain the overabundance of life we are putting on this small planet. Not to mention the resources mankind has squandered away in such a small amount of time. The ozone layer is going away, pollution is getting worse due to the overly large vehicles that waste gas. I just think that if we keep on this pace people’s great-great grandkids will have something like 3 eyes from the mess our surroundings will be in.
Back to my original point though. I watch "Jerry Springer". I can’t help it. It is just the worst of the worst fighting each other on national tv. What is there not to love? It does concern me however, that all these people have 2 or 3 kids with all these different people. People spit out kids like they spit out sunflower seed shells. No one, obviously, worries about Aids or STDs. Not to mention just protecting yourself from getting pregnant for the sixth time. That is why I like/hate the movie so much. It is a future I can unfortunately see happening.
I got the new movie "Superman: Doomsday" yesterday. I liked it, really liked it. I have heard some people say that they didn’t appreciate this telling of the death of Superman. That it was not very faithful to the comic of the same name. It was different in that way but the message I think is still the same: Superman is the ultimate hero.
I have only read a couple of comic books in my life, but I do like to know what is going on with the mythos of Superman so I try to keep up with the latest news in that area. I feel like I know quite a bit of the major comic points. To me, the movies, comics, and television versions of Superman all bring something different to the table. They all give you the basics; Superman is pure of heart, the world’s savior & he is also Clark Kent. Lex Luthor is his biggest enemy. Lois Lane is the love of his life and future wife. Those things are always present. But what I appreciate is that they all have different ways of telling what is essentially the same story.
Back to the movie – I thought Adam Baldwin and James Marsters did excellent jobs. I kept picturing Adam Baldwin while watching the movie because I think in real life he has the ideal physique for a live action Superman. I am not saying Brandon Routh didn’t do a great job in Superman Return, he did. But Adam Baldwin also has the kind of build in my opinion that Superman would be physically comparable to were he real. Tom Welling also fits the image of what Superman’s size and build would embody. Of course, Superman is unfortunately just a hero in our imaginations. The world would be such a different place if we had such a man to look up to instead of the anti-heroes of today’s leaders.
I saw an ad in the newspaper yesterday promoting fur coats. REAL fur coats. I have to wonder why anyone would actually want to wear a poor, dead animal on their back. There are so many other options today. Beautiful coats are sold all around without using a single carcass to do make them. I just find it amazing that it is considered a status symbol to slap on a long suffering creature on your back. I wish to everything that is holy that these coats would be abolished. Shouldn’t needless killing of animals be stopped? I won’t even begin to talk about the horrific things that "people" do to get the pelts off of the defenseless creatures. I just question a world that in 2007 still thinks this is a necessary, even a luxury item? WTF?????? All I have to say.
Another thing that just eats me up when I think about it is rodeos. I just do not understand how watching these things is called entertainment. Exactly when did anyone ask these animals if they wanted to be roped, chased & drug around like that? They can’t volunteer for such a barbaric ritual. But the people involved can elect whether they want to participate. Honestly if more people stopped to think about what they are paying money to witness, maybe we could get this sick ritual banned.
I had the best 5 day birthday party ever. About to go to bed after being on a weekend jaunt if you will with my sister/confidant and another friend. We stayed at a 4.5 star hotel and just chilled. The best vacations are the ones where you do very, very little but relax. And we did.. and it was nice.
I will post more later. Gonna sleep now.
