Well, Battlestar Galactica is gone. One of the finest programs ever on television has now been retired. I cried immensely during the finale. I can’t even try to pretend I didn’t. Though everything was tied together in a completely satisfying way my sadness over took my enjoyment because it is so rare for a program to be this consistently good. I will miss it. And though I will watch the upcoming Caprica on Sci-fi, it will not hold the same feeling for me. I loved this cast, each one brought depth which could only be dreamt of on other programs.
On the CW surprisingly is a phenomenal show called Supernatural. The show successfully pairs horror, humor, action, and two of the best looking brothers that ever crossed my television screen. Check it out.
My baby girl puppy Marci celebrated her 12th birthday this past weekend. I am truly blessed for every second of our lives together. How many times in life do we get to say that loving someone has brought nothing but happiness? Not very often.

I always find that the greatest test of someone’s worth is how they treat animals. If someone abuses the helplessness and trust that animals (particularly pets like dogs or cats) give us in any way then they cannot be that great of a person in every other part of life. If I see a man greet a dog with a smile and any affection then I automatically assume that he can’t be the worst person in the world. To abuse an innocent and loving being is probably the worst thing I can imagine. This judgement on my part may not always be a good indicator of someone’s worth but I have to say I have no been wrong before.
The best judge is probably the animal themselves though. I know anytime I come into contact with a dog they immediately run to me because they feel the trust and love I have for them. Pretty much all cats too. I think dogs are the best judge though because unlike cats they are totally dependent on you for companionship and to take care of them, much like very small children. They take a lot of their feelings from us. So when my dog vigorously hates someone I have to take into account that there must be something wrong with them. Don’t get me wrong, she barks at everyone she meets, that is her way. And she usually at first dislikes all males, but it’s the ones that she never calms down with that causes me to see a red flag. They know so much about instincts and feelings that as humans we have yet to learn.
Yesterday while I was walking my dog, running her actually as she hauls butt out of the front door with me following trying to keep a hold of her leash, I thought about another though not perfect test of human kindness. I have noticed that the people who see you near the sides of the roads with your pet on your walks will either acknowledge you by slowing down or acting prepared to slow down in case they have to. They usually smile at us or make some kind of contact. But the people who zoom past without a thought about an animal breaking free from their owner never smile or look at you, and apparently have no thought of what could happen. I know there are so many variables like being in rush for something but anytime I am on the road when I see an animal I always make myself prepared to stop just in case. This is just another example of people’s differences. It is interesting though not at all 100% accurate.
So I just heard last night on the news that some of the so called "bait" dogs that Michael Vic used in his dog fighting ring were beagles. My head is finding it impossible to compute just how this is possible. I can’t get myself to stop thinking about this. I have a beagle mix and she is perfect. Beagles are known for their fun and love. These animals only want to kiss. LOL Just hearing about this story on the news puts me in a funk that consists of only anger, outrage, and unimaginable heartbreak. I hear beagle and I can only think of my baby. ’
I wish I could understand the world we live in. There is so much cruelty and intolerance surrounding us constantly. It feels like love and understanding are becoming obsolete sometimes. What is happening? Humans have always had the uncanny ability for cruelty. Look at the way they used to crucify people or slaughter anyone who didn’t go along with everyone else. But we are in 2007. nearly 2008 and things have not improved all that much. We are still barbaric creatures, killing each other for no reason, like in our current Iraq war. Or the mass killing animals for food & clothing even though we are fortunate enough to have an abundance of options in today’s world. Science can only take us so far. We have to change our ways. We are plundering this planet. You have to wonder what will be left of the world when man’s time on Earth comes to and end. Nothing will be left in plentiful supply, including water.
Coming back to my original point though. I see a lot of heartlessness in the world today. And that definitely included harming animals. People hunt; I may not think it is necessary but I cannot control those things. My main problem is those who decided to harm our pets. These are creatures who rely on us much like small children. And when I see abuse on any level my heart breaks a little bit. I just want people to stop and use their conscious more often. I think if we all behaved like dogs and just loved instead of having so much malice the world would be a better place. We have to turn a corner sometime. I wish it would be sooner rather than later. No innocent animal, should needlessly suffer because someone else doesn’t have any compassion in their heart.
I was watching the first episode of "Bionic Woman" tonight (looks very promising by the way) and the question came up in the show "Can you teach an old dog new tricks". It made me start wondering who came up with such a stupid question. I mean, dogs are not stupid beings, so why would anyone think you could not teach them things at any age? My puppy is ten years old and I have to say that she learns things daily! Her aptitude for understanding and learning is kind of amazing to watch. I find myself mystified at times at just how much of what we humans say she understands fully. We literally have to spell words out because some words just piss her off. I love her, she is a genius.
On to some tv show talk. So far I have watched the season premieres for "Heroes" (phenomenal), "Bones" (good as usual); and also, as mentioned above, watched the premiere for "Bionic Woman" (interesting and I will keep watching) and the comedy/thriller "Reaper" (funny with a fabulous devil played by Ray Wise).
Tonight (thursday) "Smallville" comes back on. This is a good and bad thing for me. I love Superman and with all the spoilers I have read for upcoming episodes this season looks promising. But I will not get my hopes up because this show can really, really suck at times. The writers just refuse to change things for our Clark, he is obsessed with Lana and refuses to see the light. Honestly he seems pretty pathetic most of the time. But I will keep watching because 1, I like Tom Welling – with good writing he can be terrific at times. 2, I truly enjoy watching Lois, Chloe, and Lionel. The spoilers about Lois actually going to work for the Daily Planet also have me pretty excited. Which makes me think of an example of how messed up this show is regarding our future man of steel – Clark never mentions reporting at all. He just works the farm. The guy is somewhere around 21 years old and not only does he not want to be who he is, he never mentions writing at all. How f’ed up is that?
I will post again tomorrow night after the premiere. I will prepare myself to be underwhelmed by the Lana obsession hour, but hopefully we Superman fans will get thrown some glimpse of our hero this season. *fingers crossed*
I saw an ad in the newspaper yesterday promoting fur coats. REAL fur coats. I have to wonder why anyone would actually want to wear a poor, dead animal on their back. There are so many other options today. Beautiful coats are sold all around without using a single carcass to do make them. I just find it amazing that it is considered a status symbol to slap on a long suffering creature on your back. I wish to everything that is holy that these coats would be abolished. Shouldn’t needless killing of animals be stopped? I won’t even begin to talk about the horrific things that "people" do to get the pelts off of the defenseless creatures. I just question a world that in 2007 still thinks this is a necessary, even a luxury item? WTF?????? All I have to say.
Another thing that just eats me up when I think about it is rodeos. I just do not understand how watching these things is called entertainment. Exactly when did anyone ask these animals if they wanted to be roped, chased & drug around like that? They can’t volunteer for such a barbaric ritual. But the people involved can elect whether they want to participate. Honestly if more people stopped to think about what they are paying money to witness, maybe we could get this sick ritual banned.
People actually go out of their way to be nice on this one day of the year. It is quite an interesting prospect. How did this phenomenon actually get started? I wonder if the cavemen celebrated their friend’s birthdays with gifts. It just amazes me that people who are not necessarily thoughtful go out of their way even just to say happy birthday. I am lucky, the people around me make sure my day is great. And my little angelic dog always knows to give just a few more kisses so that I never forget she loves me. Seriously, we need more birthdays, not really for gifts but for us to treat a loved one that extra special way. So that they know we will always love them. Flawed as we are.
Which brings me to another point. I think most people are okay. However the thing is no matter how much you love them, they will let you down or hurt you. Even in an unintentional way. People hurt each other. You just cannot expect undying faith and love constantly from humans. We are not made to give unconditional love all the time. We are not, after all, the perfect loving creature as say a dog. A dog will never let you down, never try to hurt you, never want you to cry or to be angry. I think that dogs are the only perfectly pure animal on earth. Which is why I lose sleep thinking of the horrible things some of these dogs live through each day. How can anyone hurt such an innocent? They adore us and ask for so little. Anyone who could even think of harming this being is beyond despising. Honestly they should all be dropped off on a deserted island and left to either die. How about we treat them just as they did the dog, or even worse would be suffice. In my opinion they deserve to live in a nightmare that would never end.
Next time I want to talk about my favorite returning shows. "Heroes" will be back!!!That was my intention for this post. But I was just holding my little dog earlier and the above was the result.
After watching the original John Carpenter “Halloween” from 1978 on Monsters HD (a must have for anyone who loves horror), I found myself wondering why movies are so damn gory these days. There was hardly any blood and definitely no gore in the original movie. Not that I refuse to watch a movie that has blood, etc., but you have to wonder how the trend of showing exactly what your insides look like came from. Violence in movies is so very vivid. You literally see full body autopsies in some of these movies. And what the heck is with all the cannibalism implied or outright showed in so many movies? That is just gross. I guess for me, the worst violence is showing someone hurt an animal, especially a pet like a dog or a cat. I just think that is a line that should never be crossed. Thankfully they hardly ever have that in movies anymore. I just wish there would be more Hitchcock like material produced these days, where you kind of have to use your mind to visualize what was hidden from our eyes. There was mystery and suspense created by being forced to think about what could have happened. I miss that.
I think our society is really becoming too dependent on things just being easy for us. Which brings to mind the movie “Idiocracy” shows just what could happen if we do not wake up and realize how ludicrous things are becoming. Everyone should see this movie. It is essentially a comedy, but the message is so very clear. Stupid is as stupid does and we have to change the direction our country, and the world is headed. Smart is cool, thinking for yourself is even better.
I am an animal rights activist, I believe wholeheartedly that all animal have the same rights we do. Particularly pets, because they rely on our love and companionship as much as a child. That is why I am so very outraged over the NFL star who was funding dog fighting. Not only is this illegal in all 50 states but it is to me the most deplorable thing in the world. To hurt a dog is unthinkable. Dogs require so very little to be happy. Food & Water, naturally, but the thing they most crave is love. That is because their love knows no bounds. Their hearts are so pure. The thought of harming something so innocent – how could they? There is no such thing as a bad dog, they are not made that way. Dogs have bad owners which make them miserable & sometimes aggressive.
But it is people like this NFL player who are in the public eye and kids look up to them. Especially boys. To have someone that could be a hero to a kid behave in this disgusting way says a lot about society unfortunately. We, as humans who basically have control of the planet right now, we have a responsibility – no a DUTY to treat animals that rely on us with love and respect. We would certainly want to be treated fairly. All animals are equal, even though so much of the time we humans like to think/act like we are better.
Please visit the ASPCA or the HUMANE SOCIETY for ways to help bring these criminals to justice, to the full extent of the law. Don’t let this be YET ANOTHER case where a wealthy person can get away with anything they wish. Let’s stop this disturbing trend now, show the lawmakers we are watching and demand justice FOR EVERYONE – no matter if they are human or other animals.
