Tonight!

So yeah,  I haven’t updated in a while. Been busy. lol But I am so excited becuase tonight at 12:01 am I will be seeing The Twilight Saga: New Moon! My theaters locally have been sold out for weeks so it is vital to go very early because I will not be responsible for my actions if I don’t get a good seat to see Edward Cullen. Yes, I am 200% Team Edward. Because he just wins, at everything. ;-) I may be too old for this guy but I surely will enjoy seeing him in all his hotness.

Thoroughly impressive.

I saw District 9 last night. I had heard many positive things about the film and the trailers/promos for the film had me completely interested. It is not only a great science fiction movie, it is more of a social statement. I am very much reminded of the way we as humans mistreat those who we deem beneath us. There are a great many times in our history where we have treated others abominably. So it goes without saying that this is not the same recycled plot. The aliens aren’t here to kill us or take our water. They want to exist, and have the  rights that all beings deserve. I cannot recommend this one enough.

I sometimes wonder about people. For instance, why do we choose to believe a rumor if it is of the less than noble kind? It amazes me that people are willing to 100% accept a rumor as long as it is salacious and disgusting. Those same people would never believe a rumor so easily if it were more of a positive side. I just would love to know why we want things to be so negative in our lives. I don’t know, just thinking out loud.

On another note, the summer movie season is in full swing. So far I have seen good movies this summer. Hope it continues. I am really looking forward to the new Halloween sequel.

Dark? Yes. Legendary? Possibly.

The Dark Knight has to be one of the best movies I have ever seen. The depth of the characters and the quality of the story is just utterly amazing.  I recommend this move to anyone. Heath Ledger was probably one of the best actors of his generation; his Joker is something that people will talk about for years because it is truly legendary. Please give this guy an Oscar, not only for the work in this movie, but his whole body of work. I love this movie, and want to see it again.

I think these films get the critical approval because Christopher Nolan honestly looks to hire people solely on talent, not just a marque name. The people involved in these movies are an impressive team and the new additions (Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, and Maggie Gyllenhaal) fit seamlessly into the story that began in Batman Begins. The real tragic thing is that Batman’s arch enemy, the Joker cannot be a part of the film series anymore because of the unfortunate death of the incredible Ledger. Or it is my hope that they do not bring him back, any other actor would not work for me now that this character has been done so well. I have faith in Christopher Nolan, and I sincerely hope that there is one more movie. These guys are fantastic at what they do, all of them. Kudos.

Finally time to see.

July is a great month for movies. First the Dark Knight comes out Friday. Which, I have no doubt, will be brilliant. I am hearing some amazing things about this movie, and especially about the brilliance of the late (and missed) Heath Ledger as the Joker. I cannot wait. Then on the 25th, the X-Files: I want to believe comes out. Honestly I never thought this movie would happen and now that it is so close to me seeing it, I am nervous. I know, what an idiot, but this is a show I have loved for years. Finally Mulder again!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, I got the new Iphone 3g. I waiting in excruciatingly hot southern muggy heat for 3 hours to get one last Friday morning. Honestly, its worth it. I have never had a phone, smart-phone or other, to be this fun to use. And wow, it is fast compared to what I have had before. Got to say, I do see why this phone deserves the hype. Gonna enjoy it for a long, long time.

I went to see Ironman this weekend and the movie is fantastic, with excellent performances and brilliant direction. Robert Downey, Jr was born to do this role. He is so engrossing to watch, you just enjoy every second of him of screen. If the rest of the summer movies that I want to see – Indiana Jones, Dark Knight, X-Files, etc. – are this good, my blu-ray and dvd budget will be huge come Christmas time. I cannot wait to see Ironman again. I knew it would be good, you just cannot put a great director, amazing cast, and a good idea together and get it wrong. But I never thought I would like it this much. While not better than Batman Begins, it is wonderful in the same vain because the idea of getting actual talent to do a superhero movie is never going to be wrong in my opinion. It makes me wish that DC comics films would get the same treatment as Marvel’s has. Besides Batman Begins, no other DC comic is done well for the big screen. Superman needs a reboot with someone who gets the concept. I found myself wishing throughout Ironman that someone like Favreau would take over the Superman legacy, because while not only being the world’s greatest and most powerful hero, Superman has always been my favorite of all the heroes. And who knows what will happen with the Justice League movie they were supposed to be making, because that was the worst cast list I have ever heard of for a movie. ;)

On a similar note, Smallville will be so very different for its last season. Michael Rosenbaum will be vacating the show for what seems like the whole season, Kristin Kreuk will not be in most of the season, and no one knows what will happen with Allison Mack. I only hope that Erica Durance will get more episodes than in previous seasons because I love the dynamic she has with Tom Welling. I do have hope that things will be different because the guys who created the show will also be gone next season, so perhaps we will see a Clark closer to Superman and less misery from the guy.

I am addicted to rowing.

I had never used a rowing machine much as exercise. Always seeing others using it or actually seeing people using oars had seemed like good exercise but I just didn’t try it. We got a rower a few months ago and recently I decided to try it. I am hooked. It is fun, though supremely hard exercise and I have tried many types of exercise over the years from aerobics videos to pilates. Rowing takes a  lot out of you and really gives you a wonderful feeling of accomplishment. Now if I could only work up to using for more than 10 minutes at a time. ;)

There were some amazing new promo pictures from the X-files movie coming up last week, I continually stare at them and even made some walls with those and the fantastic teaser poster. I got the pics from Superhero Hype, which is linked to on this page. Check that out. This is going to be one fantastic summer for movies!

In early April, Battlestar Galactica will begin it’s first half of the final season ever of the show. I am both elated to see what happens and frightened by the idea that such a terrific program will be done. I bought the season 3 dvds and am now anxiously awaiting the answers to the many intriguing questions left from the finale. Whatever happens next I know that it will be fantastic. Honestly, this is the only show on tv that I have absolute faith in. April cannot get here fast enough.

I saw  the bootleg trailer on line for the new X-Files movie. It looks great, I only hope that my favorite character ever, Mulder, will be done justice on screen. After the disaster that was seasons 8 & 9, being a bit hesitant to have absolute faith in 1013 is a given for me. But I do have faith that David Duchovny knows Mulder and would not have done this movie if he thought Mulder was not getting his due.  Gonna be a great summer for movies. :)

I wish I coulda been there.

Yesterday was the big wondercon convention and for the first time ever David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, & Chris Carter were in attendance to preview and discuss the new X-Files movie. It must have been amazing. I am so envious of every freakin person in the audience. I saw a bit of the preview and I am beyond words about it. Seriously check out The X-Files Ultimate site. There are pics, videos, you name it. I cannot really believe how close we are to the movie coming out. Wow. Gonna be a great summer.

Still no real news

The tests have not come back on poor Heath Ledger yet. It really is not my business how he died but it was so sudden and shocking that I am curious. It is hard to believe still he died. I was watching the “Dark Knight” trailer yesterday and just kept thinking about how different this movie will feel now that he is gone. I wonder if WB will be altering their marketing now that the Joker is passed away. I hope they don’t. This is likely his last full performance on film and I think that his kicka@@ portrayal should be advertised to the hilt. It is going to be a great movie and I just know that he will be brilliant. For any and all news on the Batman movies check out Batman on Film.
